Filmmaker Sandeep Modi’s upcoming Disney+ Hotstar series The Night Manager has Anil Kapoor play an arms dealer named Shailendra Rungta who profits through war. The show will see Aditya Roy Kapur in the role of a secret agent who gets close to Rungta and his family in order to expose and nab him. Shobhita Dhulipala plays Rungta’s wife who is much younger to him.
During the trailer launch of the show some time back, Kapoor said that he agrees to do a role which makes him nervous and this is exactly what The Night Manager did to him. “The first thing is that it should make me nervous,” said Kapoor at the launch. “First thing when I see something, (I say), yaar I can’t do this; I have never done something like this. Yeh kaise karoonga? By doing this, I will fall flat on my face. So that is my first instinct. If I get that feeling that I need to be my best.”
The veteran actor added, “How will I show my face to my friends and directors? If they watch me in this project, will they offer me work again or will I stop getting work? This anxiety, nervousness and hunger is the first thing that draws me to a role.”
The show is the official Hindi adaptation of the British show of the same name that came out in 2016. It starred Tom Hiddleston, Hugh Laurie and Elizabeth Debicki in the roles reprised by Kapoor, Kapur and Dhulipala.
The Night Manager will stream on Disney+ Hotstar from February 17.
