Veteran actress Mumtaz has rarely been seen in any television reality show. However, she will be seen appearing in the upcoming episodes of the popular singing reality show, Indian Idol 13. Apart from having fun with the contestants, the 74-year-old actress will also recall actor Shammi Kapoor’s proposal to her when she was just 17 years old.
For the unversed, rumours about Mumtaz and Shammi Kapoor having a romance were rife back in the day. However, after rejecting Shammi Kapoor, Mumtaz tied the knot with Ugandan-based businessman Mayur Madhvani at the age of 27 in 1974.
Speaking of the upcoming episode of Indian Idol 13, Mumtaz will be accompanied by Dharmendra. The promos of the episodes are already making rounds on the internet. In one of the mini-video clips, Mumtaz can be seen shedding some light on how Shammi Kapoor proposed to her. It all happened when host Aditya Narayan gave a shout out to Mumtaz and Shammi Kapoor’s jodi.
She asserts, “Unhone straightforward kaha tha ‘I want to marry you.’ Main 17 saal ki thi. Mujhe shaadi nahi karna tha isliye shaadi nahi ki. (I was 17 years old. I didn’t want to get married and so I didn’t). But I do miss him sometimes. Maa puchti thi Mumtaz kisse shaadi karegi, main bolti thi Shah of Iran ke ladke se (My mom used to ask me – whom would Mumtaz marry, I would say with the son of Shah of Iran).”
Reacting to the promo, a fan wrote, “Mumtaz means magic,” while another commented, “Anxiously waiting for this best of the best episode of Indian Idol.”
Besides this, she will also dance to her popular number ‘Aaj Kal Tere Mere Pyaar Ke Charche’ and share the stage with Dharmendra to perform on their hit romantic song ‘Main Tere Ishq Mein’ from 1973’s release Loafer.
