Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap is making a comeback this week with the love-drama Almost Pyaar with DJ Mohabbat which is aimed squarely at the Gen Z demographic. In a recent interview, he talked about what he had learnt about parenting from his daughter Aaliyah and thanked her for contributing insightful observations about her generation to the initiative.
Anurag Kashyap recently discussed raising children. He claimed that parents frequently lack empathy for their own children’s difficulties. He claimed that his daughter Aaliyah Kashyap compared his hardships with hers and did not place much weight on them. Anurag discussed with Siddharth Kannan how parents struggle to comprehend the difficulties their children face. He said, “We think that our children don’t understand the value of struggle, and what they’ve been given. But their struggle is different. It’s not the same as our struggle, but it’s there.”
He claimed that his daughter openly admitted to him that her mother and he had never truly understood her. Aaliyah claimed that her father’s tales of his hard times are still being told to her by others. He added, “Parents don’t understand their children. All they want is for them to remain in a safe zone. And their definition of safety comes from their conditioning… My daughter has said this to me to my face, that ‘you don’t get me, mom doesn’t get me’. She said that everybody tells her stories about me and my struggle, how I came here with just Rs 5000. She said, ‘I don’t give a s**t. It’s your guilt that your parents spent beyond their means on your education, but you wanted to become a filmmaker and prove something. You didn’t have borrow money to provide for me. You had the money to pay for my education. My struggle is with myself. It’s so hard just to be me’.”
Anurag further stated that his daughter uses YouTube to support herself and has no issues with it. She instructed him not to query it and told him, “Main jaise bhi kama rahi hoon, kama rahi hoon na? Rent khud de rahi hoon. Aapko kya problem hai?’”
Aaliyah is daughter of Anurag’s ex-wife Aarti Bajaj. She relocated to Mumbai in a new home in 2022. She frequently posts pictures and videos of her Italian boyfriend Shane Gregoire. She notified her followers that she will be leaving Chapman University in California, where she had been enrolled, in 2021. Aaliyah also declared her intention to work in fashion marketing.
On the professional front Anurag is busy with projects like Almost Pyaar with DJ Mohabbat starring Vicky Kaushal, Alaya F, and Karan Mehta. The film is slated to hit theatres on February 3, 2023.
