Hunger Games’ prequel The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes’ first look unveiled featuring Rachel Zegler’s Lucy Gray and Tom Blyth’s Snow; see photo

Lionsgate has finally debuted the first look at The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes’ lead characters, Rachel Zegler’s Lucy Gray and Tom Blyth’s Snow.

As noted by Variety, the new photo gives a glimpse at the “18-year-old Snow, who is chosen to mentor Baird during the 10th Hunger Games — the highly publicized event in which teenagers are chosen via lottery to fight to the death. In the 2020 novel by Suzanne Collins, the unassuming Lucy Gray sparks everyone’s attention by singing during the reaping ceremony. With her talent and charisma, Snow believes he may be able to turn the odds in their favor to win the games.”

Zegler and Blyth both shared the first-look photo on Instagram writing, “Sneaky peak at our inconspicuous little movie about 2 totally chill birdwatchers with no emotional damage whatsoever…” Oscar winner Viola Davis was recently signed on for the role of game maker Volumnia Gaul. She joins an ensemble that includes Peter Dinklage as the unintentional creator of the Hunger Games, Casca Highbottom.

Rachel Zegler’s West Side Story co-star Josh Andrés Rivera will be seen as Snow’s friend Sejanus Plinth; Euphoria breakout Hunter Schafer as Tigris; Jason Schwartzman as Caesar Flickerman ancestor Lucretius “Lucky” Flickerman; Jerome Lance as District 2 tribute Marcus; Ashley Liao as mentor Clemensia Dovecote; Knox Gibson as District 8 tribute Bobbin; Mackenzie Lansing as District 4 tribute Coral; Aamer Husain as another mentor; and Felix Ravinstill as District 11’s tribute.

Francis Lawrence returns to the series, having directed the sequels Catching Fire and both parts of Mockingjay. Suzanne Collins, Tim Palen, and Jim Miller will serve as executive producers on the new project. The latest draft of the film is being written by Michael Lesslie. The screenplay will be based on the work of writers Collins and Michael Arndt, who also co-wrote the earlier Hunger Games sequel film Catching Fire.
