On Sunday, January 22, the makers of Selfiee finally dropped the trailer of the upcoming film. For the unversed, the Akshay Kumar and Emraan Hashmi starrer is an official remake of the Malayalam film Driving Licence, which was released in 2019. The original film sees Prithviraj Sukumaran and Suraj Venjaramoodu in the lead. Interestingly, Prithiviraj also attended the trailer launch of the Raj Mehta directorial and shared his two cents on the Hindi remake.
During media interaction, Prithiviraj lauded Raj Mehta for his exceptional talent. He asserted, “As someone who is being very closely associated with developing the original material, I, kinda, of know where it began and where it is with Selfiee today. Full credit to Raj for having seen the original and thinking this film is possible. That requires a lot of talent and to be able to tell a story in a different fashion but still treat the core elements, and still make you feel what the original film made you feel; maybe in an enhanced fashion.”
Sukumaran further remembered his friend and the writer of Driving License, Sachy, who passed away in 2020. He said, “The person who wrote the original story, Sachy, who is no longer between us, was one of the closest friends of mine from the industry. I am sure if Sachy sees Selfiee he would be really proud. So thank you Raj for doing that. And, one person I have to absolutely pick out and thank is Akshay Kumar because he is the person with whom this journey began.”
Talking about the film, it is about an RTO cop, who is a big fan of a film star. The ensemble star cast of the film also features Diana Penty and Nushrratt Bharruccha. It is slated to release on February 24.
