The year is coming to an end but not without a bang. The past two years have seen a boost in content in the digital space and Karan Johar and Apoorva Mehta’s Dharma Entertainment is continuing its streak of releases on streaming platforms. Following last year’s Shershaah and this year’s Gehraiyaan, the production house is closing the year with Govinda Naam Mera on Disney+ Hotstar. Directed by Shashank Khaitan and starring Vicky Kaushal, Bhumi Pednekar and Kiara Advani, the film arrived on Disney+ Hotstar on December 16, 2022.
In terms of numbers, Govinda Naam Mera became the No. 1 content viewed this past weekend. Despite the FIFA World Cup 2022 weekend and all eyes on the sport, the film did tremendously well in terms of raking in 9.2 million views. The film has surpassed several other movies released in recent times in terms of watch hours making it a superhit on the digital platform. With the buzz around the film and star cast along with a stupendous cameo of Ranbir Kapoor on the track ‘Bijli’, the makers are gearing up for a strong week as the film will grow exponentially.
With this project, Dharma Productions has once again marked a strong footprint in the digital space. Govinda Naam Mera explores the happy-go-lucky life of Govind A Waghmare (Vicky Kaushal), a struggling choreographer, as the comedy thriller takes viewers on a roller coaster ride of laughter, romance, and thrill. Wedged between his marriage with Gauri (Bhumi Pednekar) and love for his girlfriend, Suku (Kiara Advani), the three actors come together for an unconventional love triangle with dramatic turns and twists. The family entertainer has been written and directed by Shashank Khaitan and produced by Hiroo Yash Johar, Karan Johar, Apoorva Mehta, and Shashank Khaitan.
