Shashank Khaitan definitely knows the formula to win hearts over and his combination with Dharma Productions have not only given blockbusters but also chartbusters too. If we go by the past record of this producer-director duo, Govinda Naam Mera is definitely going to witness the popularity that their other ventures experienced. Interestingly, what further adds to the benefit of the film is the unconventional role in which Vicky Kaushal, Bhumi Pednekar, and Kiara Advani are presented in the film.
Readers may recall that the combination of Dharma Productions and Shashank Khaitan has given us some epic films like Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania. Adding a modern twist to the tale of the cult film Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, the film was one of the few films which stood on its own despite being compared to the most romantic Bollywood film of all times. Continuing the legacy of the Dulhania series, came yet another tale of love, Badrinath Ki Dulhania featuring the same onscreen combination of Varun Dhawan and Alia Bhatt. Despite the characters being widely different from the prequel, the story did resonate with audiences who accepted it too with open arms.
The toughest of all was Dhadak. The film will not only was a remake of a huge Marathi blockbuster Sairat but it also launched two new talents in the industry, Janhvi Kapoor and Ishaan Khatter. The romance, the songs, the music, everything was recreated and everything had Sairat infused in it. Although a remake, the film made a mark of its own and the chemistry of the new couple was also loved by the audiences. The comparisons were a given considering the popularity of the original but to rise above it was a challenge that Shashank and producer Karan Johar successfully achieved.
Now coming to their upcoming and ambitious venture Govinda Naam Mera, this one has more going for it than all the previous films. Unique in its plotline, with Vicky Kaushal being introduced in a never-seen-before avatar and Bhumi Pednekar playing a rather ‘hatke’ role, the film is already garnering immense buzz. Needless to say, Kiara Advani has a string of successes in 2022 which witnessed a few successes in Bollywood. With a combination of this terrific cast, the past success ratio of Shashank Khaitan and Dharma Productions, this thriller, action, entertainer is already on its way to achieve the kind of popularity that films often witness only after its release.
For the uninitiated, Govinda Naam Mera is a direct OTT release and will premiere on Disney+Hotstar on December 16.
