Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’s Angela Bassett remembers Chadwick Boseman in Golden Globes acceptance speech – “It is a part of his legacy that he helped to lead us to”

Angela Bassett bagged her second Golden Globe and this time for her performance as Ramonda in Marvel sequel Black Panther: Wakanda Forever in best supporting actress in a drama film category. According to Deadline, in her acceptance speech, Bassett recalled her first trip to the Globes stage in 1994 when she won for What’s Love Got to Do With It and then thanked her Marvel Disney family including Black Panther director Ryan Coogler and Marvel Studios’ Kevin Feige.

“We loved and we healed and we were surrounded each and every day by the light and the spirit of Chadwick Boseman, and we have joy in knowing that with this historic Black Panther series, it is part of his legacy that he helped to lead us to,” Bassett said. Boseman starred as King T’challa leading the original Black Panther film. The beloved actor died in August 2020 at 40, battling colon cancer for over 4 years.

Bassette concluded her speech saying, “To the Marvel fans, thank you for embracing this character and showing so much love. We just made history with this nomination and this award. It belongs to all of us.” Bassett was up against Kerry Condon (The Banshees of Inisherin), Jamie Lee Curtis (Everything Everywhere All at Once), Dolly De Leon (Triangle of Sadness) and Carey Mulligan (She Said).
