In a recent interview, veteran lyricist and filmmaker Gulzar revealed that although it was not always smooth sailing when it came to working with daughter Meghna Gulzar, he would not have it any other way. Meghna, whose upcoming film ‘Chhapaak’ stars Deepika Padukone in the lead role, is known to make films that make the audience think. Gulzar, who has written the title track of ‘Chhapaak’, said that Meghna was already working on the film when he asked her about it. The film, which is based on the real-life story of acid attack survivor, Laxmi Agarwal, required months of research and planning. Gulzar added that he was surprised to hear she was working on ‘Chhapaak’ because he presumed she was working on a film, which was based on the life of field marshal late Sam Manekshaw. However, since that film would take a lot of time and research, she decided to make ‘Chhapaak’ first instead.
Admitting that Meghna doesn’t pick easy subjects, Gulzar said he was proud of the fact that she had the courage to pick subjects that were so different. He also revealed that Meghna was a difficult director to work with and would often reject lines and songs even those written by him if they weren’t what she had in mind.
