It has been an exhilarating whirlwind promotional tour of Gangubai Kathiawadi in London and Los Angeles for Sanjay Leela Bhansali. The one question that he was constantly asked was, where is Alia Bhatt?
Waiting to board his flight back from LA to Mumbai Sanjay said, “I really missed Alia by my side while interacting on Gangubai Kathiawadi in London and LA. They all wanted to know why she was not with me. I wish she could come. But this is time when she needs to be with her baby.”
Alia who became a mother on November 6 has since then taken a long maternity leave.
Speaking about Gangubai Kathiawadi Alia said to me, “After Gangubai there is an added sense of responsibility. If it was fifty percent earlier, it is a hundred percent now. When audiences go into the theatre, they have certain expectations from me. The whole Gangubai Kathiawadi team felt a sense of relief. We chose to release our film at time when theatres were only allowed fifty percent attendance. Then things gradually got better. We went with our conviction and belief. We received extremely positive response.”
