While Avatar franchise director James Cameron previously shared that he will next introduce the darker, fire-based people, the Oscar-winning filmmaker has now teased a little more on the third instalment and what it explores.
“Fire has a symbolic purpose in the film and there’s a culture that is specifically around that concept. That’s probably saying too much as we speak,” Cameron told Deadline while attending the Critics’ Choice Awards. “You’re going to meet two completely new cultures in the next film.”
“We met the Omaticaya, we met the Metkayina, and you’re going to meet two new cultures in the next film, and it kind of rove a little more freely around the world of Pandora to different places,” he said. Cameron’s wife Suzy Amis also chimed in and said, “You need a very secure seatbelt,” to which Cameron added, “It’s a rocket sled.”
Meanwhile, Jack Champion (Spider) and Trinity Jo Bliss (Tuktirey aka Tuk) in the recent Avatar: The Way of Water, also teased how their characters will further unfold in Avatar 3.
Avatar 3 is currently scheduled to hit theaters on December 20, 2024.
