Thank God sells 50,000 tickets for Day 1; may benefit due to holiday factor

Thank God is a non-starter as far as advance ticket sales are concerned as the film has sold merely 26,000 tickets in the three national chains – PVR, Inox and Cinepolis – for the opening day. The advance booking is lower than the dud, Raksha Bandhan, which was released on the Independence Day weekend this year. It’s a wait-and-watch game on word of mouth as the only way for the film to sustain and put up a face-saving result, in the long run, is going to be a good audience talk.

Without the holiday, Thank God would have struggled to even clock Rs. 7.50 crore on the opening day with this level of advance, but now the hope is on the holiday audience to step out closer to the show times and help the film somehow reach the double-digit number.

On an all-India level, Thank God has sold around 50,000 tickets with a total nett collection around the Rs. 1 crore mark for the opening day. These numbers are dismal to say the least and given the comedy genre and huge ensemble cast of Ajay Devgn, Sidharth Malhotra and Rakul Preet Singh, the results should have been better.

It’s a dull Diwali as far as advance is concerned as even Thank God will benefit merely due to the holiday factor since there is a big section who prefers to watch films on post-Diwali day. The industry is expecting a start of around Rs. 12 crore and it remains to be seen if Thank God can somehow attain this number on the strength of holiday and spot audience.
