Bob Marley’s grandson Joseph ‘Jo Mersa’ Marley passes away at 31

Reggae musician Joseph “Jo Mersa” Marley, Bob Marley’s grandson has reportedly died at the age of 31. According to Entertainment Weekly, journalist Abka Fitz-Henley first reported the news in a tweet. His cause of death has not been released; it has been reported he was “found in his vehicle.”

Prime Minister of Jamaica, Andrew Holness, also shared the news of Marley’s death on Twitter Tuesday, offering condolences to friends and fans. “My heartfelt sympathies to Joseph’s friends and associates and to the Reggae music fraternity and fans everywhere,” he tweeted. “His untimely passing at the young age of 31y.o. is a huge loss to the music as we look to the next generation.”

Joseph “Jo Mersa” Marley was born in Jamaica in 1991 to Grammy winning artist Stephen Marley, one of Bob’s 11 children. Marley followed his family’s musical footsteps, joining his family’s band, Ziggy Marley and the Melody Makers.

He began writing music in middle school and released his first song, ‘My Girl’, in 2010. In 2014, his first EP Comfortable was released followed by Eternal, which debuted last year.

According to WZPP Radio, Jo Mersa is survived by his wife and daughter.
