Harrison Ford on his experience with de-ageing technology used in Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny – “It’s fantastic”

Harrison Ford is all set to grace big screens by reprising his titular character in the fifth installment of Indiana Jones. As shared by Collider, the actor, who was digitally de-aged for some sequences of the upcoming film which are set in the past, discussed his experience with Lucasfilm’s de-ageing technology on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. “That is my actual face. At that age,” Ford said.

“They have this artificial intelligence program,” he continued. “It can go through every foot of film Lucasfilm owns, because I did a bunch of movies for them. They have all this footage, including film that wasn’t printed. They could mine from where the light is coming from, the expression. But that’s my actual face.”

He added, “I put little dots on my face and I say the words and they make it. It’s fantastic.” Meanwhile, this isn’t the first time the studio has used such an advanced technology for its project. The same software has been utilized in multiple Star Wars projects including The Mandalorian series and Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.

Directed by James Mangold, Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny will be set in 1969. Besides Ford, the film also features Mads Mikkelsen, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Thomas Kretschmann, Boyd Holbrook, Shaunette Renée Wilson, Toby Jones, Antonio Banderas and John Rhys-Davies. As previously reported, Mikkelsen will be playing the film’s antagonist Voller, who is inspired by real-life Nazi-turned-NASA-engineer Wernher von Braun.

The fifth entry in the iconic Indiana Jones series is set to release on June 30, 2023.
